Paris Men's Fashion Week, Day 1

Paris - the city of fashion. There is no better place to end the menswear weeks than in the one place where fashion is the pinnacle of life. The first day saw shows from Lucien Pellat Finet, Alibellus+, Julien David, Y Project, Carven, Walter Van Beirendonck, John Lawrence Sullivan, and Mugler.

My favourite shows/collections from the first day include Raf SimonsValentino and Christian Lacroix.

Raf Simons Autumn/Winter 2013

Here it is, a preview of Raf Simons' anticipated first menswear collection for the season. After the success he has experienced as Creative Director for Jil Sander and now for the womenswear division at Dior, his influence has stretched once again to Adidas, who have collaborated with the designer or his Autumn/Winter 2013 collection, releasing less alienable, more wearable shoes. The collection is true Raf, simple, neat and clean designs with a hint of rebelliousness, and complements the aesthetics of his Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

Christian Lacroix Autumn/Winter 2013

The crisp cleanliness of Christian Lacroix's latest collection is undeniable. Timeless and well-fitted garments such as trousers, jeans and leather derby shoes go hand-in-hand with the slightly bold checked coats, printed sweaters and furry varsity jackets.

Valentino Autumn/Winter 2013

Valentino's ability to keep up with the times and maintain their illustrious name is admirable. The collection boasts their skill in fusing old and new for the future, with digital hound's tooth prints on coats, leather panels on classic tailored blazers and jackets, grid-like quilted jackets, leather blazers and varsity jackets and modernized tartan prints all go together, with each look finished with a pair of smart, yet edgy, studded leather brogues or boots. A collection for the classic yet modern gentleman by a timeless label.

Paris Men's Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 - Day 1

The boys' fashion shows continue in Paris for another busy 5 days! The first day of Paris Men's Fashion Week feature shows from Band Of Outsiders, which is the fashion industry's longest ever fashion show - the models changing every 45 minutes - be sure to check that out, if you have time, Hardy Amies, the ever-bold John Lawrence Sullivan, and the futuristic Tillmann Lauterbach and Y Project.

My favourites from the day included Christian Lacroix, Mugler and the new Creative Director for Dior, Raf Simons

Christian Lacroix SS13

Block colour, geometric print and modern tailoring combine to create what is Christian Lacroix's latest collection. It is evident that even the Sports Luxe trend has seeped into the outfits, with utility sneakers replacing what would usually be a polished dress shoe or the like with the outfit. Minor details are given extra attention to, and add that needed dynamic touch, with the tweaking of the classic trench coat belt, by wrapping it around the torso and then under the left side and in the trousers, the belt loops are lifted above the waistline. This collection is a far cry from Christian Lacorix's Fall/Winter 2012 collection, an indication of the versatility of the label.

Raf Simons SS13

The new Creative Director for Dior and most likely the biggest rival to Hedi Slimane (who has recently taken over direction of Yves Saint Laurent, now Saint Laurent Paris), Raf Simons, has presented a collection that is truly his own vision. The collection caters to different tastes within the same stream of fashion, with regal tartan coats for the more classic man, alongside tessellated print blazers and shirts for the modern minimalist, and anime and illustrated print oversize shirts for the eccentric. Once again the monochromatic and sports luxe trend are present in his collection, with sneakers bumping off the usual dress shoe. If Raf's menswear collection is this good, I cannot wait to see his first Haute Couture collection for Dior!

Mugler SS13

Nicola Formichetti's collections for Mugler never cease to amaze me, and how he has the time to design outfits for Lady Gaga and run his own streetwear brand, Nicopanda, I will never know. Nicola has stayed true to Thierry Mugler's love of careful and precise cuts within the garments, and this dynamic detail goes down right to the shoes. A perfect colour palette encompassing black, whites, champagne and pastels bring down the vividness of recent Spring/Summer collections, most notably Spring/Summer 2012, but iridescence does make an appearance once again, with oil slick dress shoes and iridescent belts being part of the collection. The combination of body hugging yet relaxed fits show off the male form without changing the silhouette and relying on simplicity, which Nicola has always been an expert at.

Day 1 - Paris Men's Fashion Week

It's Day 1 of Paris Men's Fashion Week, and once again I cannot wait for the runway shows!
The first day featured shows from Y.Project by Yohan Sefarty, John Lawrence Sullivan, Mugler and Christian Lacroix.
I adored all the runway shows so I'll have to talk about them all! But the most special of them all was Mugler, and not because of the show, but the live streams leading up to the event, hence why I will make another post especially for Mugler. Anyway, I'll start off!

I have never seen or heard of Yohan Sefarty before, and I am glad I saw his collection on the runway! His designs are my style, and I wear pieces similar to these when it's the Fall/Winter season, so it's a definite that I will be saving up to buy one of the pieces from his collection. The dynamic cuts, mix of textured fabrics and surprisingly relaxed look of the ensembles caught my attention.

John Lawrence Sullivan FW12

I've only recently heard about John Lawrence Sullivan, and I absolutely love his upcoming Fall/Winter collection! The colour progression from pristine ocean colours to earthy metallics combined with the unique classical designs created a truly amazing collection for the eccentric gentleman for this coming season!

Christian Lacroix FW12

The one and only Christian Lacroix brought to me a fun, optimistic collection, along with the irony of using Mayan (2012, y'know) prints on some of his pieces, for example, the Mayan jumpsuit. The pieces are both wearable and one of a kind, combining elements of punk and classic, and caters to both a young and mature market. I'd love to own either the Mayan track suit jumper or pants!
