London Collections: Men, Day 3

The final day of London Collections: Men consisted of some of British menswear's best, including Paul Smith, Pringle of Scotland, Fashion East and the homecoming show of Burberry Prorsum. American bespoke menswear expert, Tom Ford, also showed his collection to British and worldwide press. Notable collections include:

Christopher Raeburn Spring/Summer 2014

Christopher Raeburn's Spring/Summer 2014 collection is the embodiment of his signature functional style. Compared to previous collections, the earthen colour palette of this collection is odd yet welcomed. The monochromatic-bright mixed palette he usually utilizes may well be behind him, as his ability to incorporate a predominantly dusty brown and bare skin amongst a structural collection is applaudable. Will prints resembling birds-eye photography of deserts be his downfall? Absolutely not.

Nicole Farhi Spring/Summer 2014

The bare skin and nude colour trend is flowing throughout the menswear collections, and Nicole Farhi has mastered it with ease. The high sartorial yet aesthetically relaxing collection of Nicole Farhi is perfect for the man who loves dressing up but aims for a casual approach to colouring rather than the strict professional and timeless colour palette of navy, grey, brown, black and white. A mix of prints and textures encompass the collection - architectural three-dimensional tessellation, thin rectangular grids, creased cotton and monochromatic cotton blend, marking the depth of tailored garments when typical patterns and fabric choices are tossed aside.

London Collections: Men, Day 3

It's the final day of London Collections: Men, and what a milestone the week has been for British Fashion and Men's Fashion! What a privilege for London to host the first week of shows for Spring/Summer Menswear this month.

The final day included shows from J.W. Anderson, Christopher Kane, Baartmans and Siegel, Meadham Kirchhoff, Omar Kashoura, Richard James and Fashion East. My favourites from the last day were Christopher Raeburn, Richard Nicoll and Pringle of Scotland, this day was truly all about Minimalism.

Christopher Raeburn SS13

Christopher Raeburn brings breath of fresh air from conventional fashion by adding in dynamic tweaks to collared shirts, sheer coats and shiny windbreakers. I feel this collection is a vision of future fashion, combining utility and aesthetic. A very clean and refreshing collection, both colour palette and design wise, props to Mr. Raeburn for this wonderful collection.

Richard Nicoll SS13

What I love about Richard Nicoll's latest collection is the total absence of print, except for the regal Imperial blue paisley. Texture, dynamic cuts, geometric patches and zipper details flowed throughout the collection, in simple minimalist style. Pops of colour burst at you, but doesn't overwhelm the message of minimalism in this collection.

Pringle of Scotland SS13

The final collection from London Collections: Men was Pringle of Scotland, one of the leading labels in the world for minimalist fashion, and their latest collection doesn't disappoint. Muted blues and neutrals accentuate the panels throughout the garments, the irregular stripe and tessellated patterns bring fashionable geometrics as a new trend in men's fashion and of course monochromatic outfits were seen throughout the show, another upcoming must-have look for men this season. This collection topped off London's first ever Men's Fashion Week! I cannot wait to see these collections hit online stores and stores here in Australia!

Day 2 - Milan Men's Fashion Week

The second day of Milan Fashion Week included shows by some of the most well-known brands in fashion, such as Emporio Armani (which I watched through the Armani website), Salvatore Ferragamo (streamed live), Missoni and Pringle of Scotland.

The stand out collections for me were Bottega Veneta, Vivienne Westwood, Calvin Klein and Prada

Bottega Veneta FW12

Bottega Veneta's collection is unique in the presentation of mismatched fabrics focused on the distortion of what the sophisticated image means to us. I adore the contemporary patterned blazers, especially those with the plastic looking material as a contrasting feature for the pieces. It's oblivious to see that I want the metallic jacket!

Vivienne Westwood FW12

As always, Vivienne Westwood delivered a collection and show to question the minds of onlookers. Fulfilling her title as the Mother of Punk, the abundance of tartan, fur and overall odd outfits did not disappoint me at all. I only wonder what the concept for hair and makeup was... a mix of sun tan and snow?

Calvin Klein Collection FW12

I was lucky enough to be awake at the time of the Calvin Klein show, and it was well worth staying up for! The live stream featured a point and shoot option so you could save your favourite looks from the show! Anyway, the showing of contrasting reptilian leathers, desert nudes and creepy creepers left me in awe. The clever execution of minimalist chic was undeniable in both the collection and the show itself. There was a celebrity face on the runway, and it was none other than Joe Jonas haha!

PRADA FW12

I watched the Prada show through the live stream in the late hours of the night, and I could not keep my eyes off the screen, even before the show started! The camera was placed so viewers can see the whole set - the luscious red, moody lighting and haunting music reminiscent of Alexander McQueen.

One could argue that the pieces from the collection look a tad Soviet military, especially with the obvious theme of red, but I loved it! I will definitely be saving up for the cyber-tech inspired sunglasses and the patterned oxfords which were presented in the collection!

Miuccia outdid herself by bringing on some A-list Hollywood actors on the runway to show off her designs - including Garrett Hedlund, William Defoe, Jamie Bell, Tim Roth and Adrien Brody (who I must say looks amazing in the all red ensemble).

Overall, it was the best show I have seen at Milan so far.
