This month is known as "Fashion Month" in the calendar, as September is the season of change, and along with this, Vogue Fashion's Night Out is hosted worldwide, fashion magazines release their long-awaited September issues, with Vogue US leading the pack, and of course the unveiling of the upcoming Spring/Summer collections of emerging and established designers in New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks.
The first Fashion Week of the month was held in New York, with the first half of the week including shows from notable designers and labels - BCBG Max Azria, See by Chloe, Jason Wu, Tommy Hilfiger, Prabal Gurung, Maison Martin Margiela, Edun, Altuzzara, Victoria Beckham, DKNY, and renowned couturier Zac Posen. But, as per usual, I must give to you my favourite collections from Days 1-4!
Timo Weiland Spring/Summer 2013
Timo Weiland is a relatively new name to me, but from this collection there is no doubt that these boys have talent and an eye for minimalist style focusing on the composition of colours and minute detail, tweaking the most simple of garments to one encompassing modern elements and thus allowing men possessing a more relaxed wardrobe to keep comfort and not sacrifice style.
Alexander Wang Spring/Summer 2013
Alexander Wang has been grabbing fashion media's attention as of late, with the New York designer taking Zef side duo Die Antwoord and the ferocious female rapper of the moment, Azealia Banks under his wing. His Spring/Summer collection for 2013 only further progresses him into popularity, the collection displaying his ability to deceive the eye. Segmented shirts and skirts, long line leather sandals and dresses that more or less resembled block tribal tattoos that came to life were aplenty, and has sparked the future of fashion, bringing "strapless" a new definition.

Derek Lam Spring/Summer 2013
Classic tailored suits paired with leather shirts, bright and muted coloured mesh dresses and tops and moody monochromatic looks filled the Derek Lam collection, fusing a sense of calmness with sharp, hard edged garments to give women a diverse collection to froth over.
Diane Von Furstenberg Spring/Summer 2013
Legendary fashion designer, Diane Von Furstenberg, delivers yet another stunning collection, capturing the essence of today's women, and the changing definition of femininity and how it has affected fashion for the future. Cutout dresses, prints encompassing streaks of fading colours and airy playsuits resembling the popular trend from the 70s from the collection symbolised the fusion of past and present, which has emerged as a prominent trend in designers' collections as of late, but Diane does not sacrifice her ability to design undeniably feminine garments.

Helmut Lang Spring/Summer 2013
Michael and Nicole Colovos for Helmut Lang continue to design collections that carry on the vision of Helmut Lang himself, with this collection also adding a fresher take on this season's current trends of oriental patterns, sheer, monochromatic, neon and the fast-emerging hit of spaghetti strapped tops and dresses.

Rad by Rad Hourani Spring/Summer 2013
Rad Hourani has blurred the lines between masculine and feminine, bringing out a completely androgynous and unisex collection, a move most minimalist and post-modern designers are taking to reach the expanding market of androgynous dressers. Subtle pinks and bold metallics are set against neutrals in structural style, with the sandals adding that extra hint of summertime chic.

Thakoon Spring/Summer 2013
Thakoon is well-known as being a Vogue Fashion Fund recipient, and was supported by none other than the infamous Anna Wintour during his rise in the fashion industry. His undeniable ability to turn rather feminine and beautiful garments into intimidating pieces of art is rare in the fashion world, and this collection displays this ability perfectly. The sensual pops of colour and serene prints depicting colourful foraging in flora is quickly dissipated by the ghostly neutral sheer outerwear and clean cut lines, enhancing the atmosphere of clinical vs natural beauty.
Y-3 Spring/Summer 2013
Yohji Yamamoto's diffusion line, Y-3, keeps the sports luxe trend alive for the coming season. Yohji has effectively brought his avant-garde vision into functional and luxurious sportswear, with his knack for harem legs in his ready-to-wear collection being translated into Y-3. The collection also features an abundance of monochromatic looks and illuminating floral prints for men, with the neutrals and panelling only heightening the functional style in both the men and women's pieces.
